Odd and Ends of Boise...

Platt Garden at the Boise Depot overlooking downtown. It started off a rainy day.

The Capitol Building of Boise...a small replica of our nation's Capitol Building.

It is beautiful and impressive!

The Boise Train Depot.

The Boise State Stadium...our rival!!

Never had Jimmy John's...so I tried it...and loved it!

The girls loved the little dog that the maid left for them at the hotel! :)

Said our goodbyes to Cracker Barrel...excuse me for a moment of silence... :(

Boise Homes...

OK...my husband and I like to just drive around towns and cities...just to see what there is to see! Today, coming back from the penitentiary, I drove down this street called Warm Springs Ave. I couldn't get over the beautiful, amazing homes on this street! It had history and beauty all over! I told Eric about it at dinner and he said...let's go see it! The above home was one of our favorites! The pictures don't show the real beauty but they were simply gorgeous!

So we pulled over for this house...and grabbed one of the For Sale fliers... $1,500,000.00!
Holy cow! Sold to the Tastets! ;)

I got this picture while driving by myself...LOL! Love it!

Boise is a sweet town...I have thoroughly enjoyed it! It has a wonderful mix of historical class and modern touch all mixed together. I have loved it!

Old Idaho Penitentiary

Today, we took a tour of Old Idaho Penitentiary. It was in operation from 1870 - 1973. It was not far from our hotel...it may seem strange to take young kids...but they enjoyed it and asked lots of questions. I love visiting historical places...I think it is great to expose your kids to places where they can learn and appreciate the history of our country. They will like it if you do! :)
The Women's Ward which was a separate building from the main building.
As I read, I was so interested that in the early days of prisons...women did domestic work while in prison. Sewing, knitting, crocheting, ironing, cooking, gardening...maybe I am "old school"...but I like this!

My favorite part was reading about the women in this prison and some of the stories behind their prison sentence. Before many of the laws in this nation, men were allowed to beat their wives. Even after laws were made about this...men continued to beat their wives in private...so much that many wives felt that the only way out was to murder their husband. As seen in the above photo, forgery was a crime that many women were involved in. Times were so destitute that mothers felt the only way to provide for their families were to commit the crime of forgery.

It really made me think of how far the sin of humans has progressed. Committing crimes because they could see no other way out...to committing crimes just because. People commit crimes in this day and age for a status symbol. It really makes you think...

Old muskets dating back to the Civil War...love it!

The front of the penitentiary

Some of the cells...

The Warden's House

So our first afternoon here...while Daddy was working :)...we went swimming! And had the entire pool and jacuzzi to ourselves the whole afternoon! Can you say AWESOME! :) The kids pool area was great because it was only 1 ft deep...had a crab slide...and a mushroom fountain! Ahhh! It was so relaxing and enjoyable! Here are a few pictures!
